So I just heard this song today, but it already feels like a quintessential song in my musical library. I know it’s bad and corny to say the least. Lana’s (baby/poor little rich girl/breathy lolita) voice, which changes with all the different arrangements in the song. The fact that the song’s beat is a weird string and bass guitar kerfuffle over Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” is a whole other bag of cats that I’m not even gonna touch, makes me feel like it’s hair metal night at the disco. But I kind of can’t help but sway to the beat. It’s nice to hear her sing a up beat fun and funny song.
One of the the chorus lines is “…soon you’ll be taking off your pants for me…” so yeah. I also really like the way she sort of raps “…cuz im drinking diet-coke a lot, sucking on my lolly-pops…” its just that tacky kind of musical fun. But my favorite part is during the break down when she sings the chorus over a light piano and hand claps. It feels sincere and you can almost hear her smile as she is singing.
It’s a song I want to be embarrased about how much I like it, but I can’t be and I’m not.
